Dedication of
Memorial Bench
– On September 11,
2002, the Cornwall Community came together to remember a dark
time in our history. The Cornwall Historical Society, along with
the Town Government, joined in honoring the victims of September
11, 2001 with a bench (done completely through donations) placed at Chadeayne Circle.
October
28, 2003 –
First Annual Wine
and Cheese Fundraiser
was held at the
Storm King Lodge Bed and Breakfast on Pleasant Hill Road. Hal and
Gay Janks hosted the event, while Lorraine and Frank Rovello
coordinated the event. Many local residents came to support the
Historical Society.
March 7,
2003 –
Museum Opening – The
Cornwall Historical Society Museum at Town Hall officially
opened to the public.
September 11, 2003 –
Memorial Bench
– A wreath was placed along
with flowers to honor the memory of those we lost two years
earlier. The local Police, Fire and friends stood solemnly while
the NYMA band marched around the Chadeayne Circle.
September 2003 –
Obtained Honor Roll
To Honor WWII Vets
– The dedicated wall pays tribute to Cornwall’s WWII war veterans,
which is housed in the Cornwall Historical Society Museum.
September 2004 –
Cemetery Protection
Law was
passed to protect local family cemeteries. This Town law
establishes regulations requiring Planning Board review for any
structure proposed to be located within 100 feet of such a
burial ground or cemetery and prohibit locations of any
commercial or residential structure within 50 feet from any such burial
ground and cemetery.
May 2004 –
WWII Wall
Of Honor Dedicated.
It is now displayed
in our museum.
November 2005
–
In
cooperation with the Cornwall Library, a display case
was added at the Cornwall Library - this display changes so
be sure to stop by the Library and see the current display.

October 2006 --
The Cornwall Historical Society held elections
during the October membership meeting and is proud to announce
members of the Executive Board: President Maryanne Rose, Vice
President Doug Cooper, Treasurer Tristan Laurion and Secretary Peggy
McGinnis. Our Trustees are: Barbara Devitt, Colette Fulton,
William Fulton, Andrew Maroney, Jeanne Maroney, Frank Rovello, Dean
Satterly, Betty Ziegler and Jay Ziegler. The Society thanks Frank
O’Donnell (outgoing trustee) and Patti Spaulding (outgoing Vice
President) for their dedication and service to the Society.
The Society welcomes Ethel Burns and Barbara
