The replacement stone is set in accordance with its manufacturer's standards -- 18" below grade |
The old stone, worn out by 210 years of wind, rain and ice, reads " Isaac Van Duzor was born Sep 10 1721 desest [deceased] July 20 in the year 1798 " |

We all start working in earnest when the real boss, Barbara Devitt, arrives! |

Many hands make light work. The original stone was replaced by this new, marble stone. |
The original was re-set behind its updated counterpart in a way that allows it to be read. |
Extraordinary steps were taken to protect the ancient sandstone marker. We're honoring the work performed more than 2 centuries ago. |
Both stones were placed and re-set by hand, with a dirt filled space between them to protect them from rubbing against each other |
Mrs. Van Duzor's marker, adjacent to Isaac's, reads " Here lies the remains of Jane Van Duzor who dyed Sept the 25 1794" |
Jane's stone was also cleaned and reset. Note that the dark portion of the stone was below grade and hiding some important information : Ageed 55 |
Taking as much care as possible for a correct placement, Mrs. Van Duzor's marker was reset so that its entire message could be read. |

Barbara Devitt finishes the Society's work this day with a fitting tribute to an Honorable Veteran of our first fight for Freedom! |

This was definately not all work and no fun |
However, some of us worked harder than others! Note the boss looking on with an approving bearing. |

A BRIEF HISTORY OF
THE HONOR ROLL
Cornwall
paid tribute to its sons and daughters serving in the armed
forces with the dedication of an honor roll with services at the
soldiers’ and sailors’ monument in September 1943.
Six hundred
eighty-four names appeared on the wall. Of that number fourteen
paid the supreme sacrifice.
Sixty years later, in
September 2003, this honor roll was obtained by the Cornwall Historical
Society and has been refurbished for permanent
display at our museum.
Today, (May 31st
2004) we re-dedicate the honor roll so these veterans will not be forgotten.
