This Instrument
Witnesseth That the Board of Regents for and on behalf of the
Education Department of the State of New York at their meeting
of November 12, 2000.
Voted, that
1. A
provisional charter valid for a term of five years is granted
incorporating
Nancy Brennan, Janet Dempsey, Barbara
Devitt, Colette Fulton, Tristan Laurion, Martha La Vallee,
Andrew Maroney, Jeanne Maroney, Leslie Riley, Geraldine Satterly
and their associates and successors as an education corporation
under the corporate name of The Cornwall Historical Society,
located in the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, county of Orange,
state of New York.
2. The purposes for which such corporation is formed
are:
A. to
document, preserve and study the history of the
Town of Cornwall, including the Village of Cornwall-on
-Hudson, and the hamlets of Canterbury, Cornwall
Landing, Firthcliff and Mountainville, Orange County,
NY;
B. to
collect, own, hold, restore, preserve and display
appropriate artifacts and collections;
C.
to acquire and preserve appropriate historic sites;
D.
to educate and inform the community about its
history;
E. To promote historic preservation;
F.
To research the community’s history;
G.
To offer programs, lectures, displays, exhibits and
publications to the public; and
H.
To instill pride in the community, identifications with
it’s past, and a sense of commitment and responsibility
for it’s future.
We hope through
achievement of our goals to promote pride in our community,
identification with its past, and to instill in our community a
commitment to responsibility for its future.
